Cool ng cool

In this Googster period, I’ve noticed that digital serendipity has become so prevalent. I assume that they’ve thrown this video at me because I’ve been blacklisted for watching the Boy George cameo in this Takara Sake advert too many times. It’s a band favorite. The absurd lip-licking and the musical accompaniment - it’s just too much. This montage of Honda ads accurately embodies the spirit of Sparkly Fin. We feel it’s pretty amazing/hilarious. I’m complacent but I have so many questions. Where are the ladies going? Why are they showering with their shirts on? What is their barber’s telephone number? Why have automotive manufacturers veered away from angular hatchbacks? To add even more intrigue to these Integra vixens, Emily has noticed undeniable resemblances to Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune and the nature of their relationship. I strongly believe that they’re just looking for hugs from each other. It’s frustrating. The solution is as easy as pulling over and leaning over the center console. It would help if they stopped parking their vehicle in front of alluring bodies of water and rigidly standing in their designated positions.

Alright. We’ve posted content for the EMILY and JOSEPH links.

We’ve also posted the recordings from our Cozy Evening.

Wake up, wake up! It’s the 3rd of the moooonth.
perf

I must say, we rang in the shortest, maybe coldest month of the year with quite a success. (High Five, yo!) Our expectations were surpassed at about 7:30pm. Charles Shaw’s booking agent pulled through, fans showed us their support in the greatest way possible, Adam created a great segue between a solitary yet vibrant showing of ‘Leon the Professional’ and the influx of our guests. Everyone recieved their promised high pives and Ashlyn did the worm!

Our gratitude for Saturday night cannot be measured. Thanks to everyone for coming out to crazy Bed-Stuy on the crazy trains; I surely felt the love and support from all. It was a pleasure hosting and performing. We’ll keep you posted for the next show, which I hear might take place in a grocery store. Jamaican patties anyone?

<3, Emlay
P.S. Hope you enjoy the live clip of “Cheer Up” beginning and ending with twobuck banter.

ALBUMDROP + MINISHOW

Sweet competence! iTunes and Amazon faithfully delivered our album to the web(kinz) on the 27th.

High Pive via iTunes

*also available on iTunes UK, Canada and Japan

At one point on Tuesday, we were ranked #526 in Amazon’s mp3 album sales (about 500 spots behind Kala and IN RAINBOWS). The reception of the album has made this entire experience completely worthwhile. Grazie to all.

The first live Sparkly Fin performance will be humbly held in Em’s bk apartment. It’ll be fun to see if I can remember the chords to our songs. For many reasons, the night should be a delight. Oh, and Charles Shaw is slated to be the opening and closing acts.

Looky, looky at what I’ve got.
These are our fresh new postcards/fliers! Emily did a fantastic job designing these. I’ve got two fatty stacks that are eager to find their ways into the hands of our fans. Much thanks to E’s uncle for the print job.
Contact us however you please to snatch one or many. We’ve also got a new mailing list you can join (to the right, to the right»»). We won’t spam you or SPAM you.
These paper treats mean so much to me. In November we voted, contemplated our album release and launched our site. January arrived in a hurry. We were both in D.C. for the inauguration - Em during the weekend, J for the actual ceremony. Thrilled for the new administration and thrilled for High Pive to be officially released on the interwebbings.
We still have to put on a show and present this project live. We’ll let you know when that happens. We’ve also got album dos on our minds.
Cheers. J. 23 January 2009

“It’s been a long time. I shouldn’t have left you without a dope beat to step to.”

Feeling great thangs in 2009.

On the 27th of January our album High Pive will finally be released on iTunes and Amazon.com

While driving toward sushi last week, Monica and I heard “Always Be My Baby” on what we thought to be the fruity-music-from-the-late-70’s-station. It was a completely refreshing surprise. When I rediscover hot songs, I’m eager to share them with my musical confidants. I get excited when they feel what I’m feeling. These musical confidants are also my closest friends. They keep me in check. I hold my own musical preferences just fine, but if I bump something less than preferable to human ears, then they let me know. Case & point: “Good Lovin’” by Slim a.k.a. the free iTunes single of last week. I can count on these gunslingers to introduce me to new music and share the good stuff. As silly as it sounds, I was so thrilled to find out that across the board (myself, my girlfriend, my best friends) we could agree on Mariah’s 1996 hit being so money. I hope I’m not exaggerating - Monica definitely grooved in the passenger seat, Lieu danced hard enough to loosen his suspension, Emily enjoys her Mariah with “half a glass of Long Island iced tea,” and then there’s this…

Adam Holofcener - Always Be My Baby

Artist Profile: Adam G. Holofcener
He’s been a good friend to Sparkly Fin. He’s a seasoned performer well-versed in the arts. Imagine a handful of Jelly Bellies. Okay, now marinate them in your favorite barbecue sauce and them throw them at a moving Saab sedan. That is his music. He’s got it going on. Have a taste at

“Time can’t erase a feeling this strong.”

Thanks for reading this. Haha.

I posted the lyrics for this song about two months ago- and now we are presenting the master to you in full for the first. time. ever. Right here!

An article on Roberto BolaƱo’s recently translated novel 2666 was a big part of the inspiration for the words. Hopefully this is an encouragement to openmindedness and cutting-edge enterpreneuriship. Cheer up and charge forward, friends and foes!

Peace & Love, Emzzz

What happens when a band covers “Careless Whisper” before releasing a proper album?

Answer: the obligatory Wham! holiday cover surfaces.

We’d like to share this little treat with our cool fans. You’ll hear why I don’t sing on any Sparkly Fin tracks. Haha. From the bottoms of our hearts, we wish everyone the best during these holidays. There’s so much more to come so “hold onto yer butts.”

You can download our version of “Last Christmas” here.

Much thanks and love to all,
Joseph

I know sometimes I don’t make sense at all.
We’re experimenting with 8-bit and one-liner songs: minimalistic songage.
If you feel so inclined, do let us know what you think.

Thanks to my buddy Chen Chen, I now know the valuable secret of stainless steel. It thwarts off the evils of prevailing onion and garlic malodors! Too much garlic bread? Rub your tongue with a stainless steel spoon! Too much raw onion eating-recording? Stainless steel! I did not know that and now I do and I am happy.
I am also happy to finally announce the date our album will be released into the wild wild world of ears.

January 27, 2009 A.D. on a Bright Blue Tuesday Day

Available on iTunes and Amazon. You can actually possibly peek and preorder it now on Amazon.
